Digital photographs
by Jan Mayer janlmayer@earthlink.net 520-481-0359The marriage of photography and nature is simple and complementary, revealing a complexity of design and allure for both form and function in the natural world. My work resonates what I intuit to be the spirit of life’s honest reflections in color, shadow, texture, movement and grand exuberance.
The medium of digital photography has freed my senses to capture and produce vibrant images in a most immediate way, allowing me to choose the moment I believe most represents my perception of what I experience. Using watercolor paper enhances the painterly quality of these images allowing their mystery to weave back and forth through the illusion of reality.
SCULPTURE & PAINTING
Ursela Gurau Ursela discovered Tucson in 1993, when she moved from Springfield, MA, where she resided with her family for 28 years… and worked as a Director of Volunteers & Activities at a 200 bed nursing home. During this time, Ursela discovered clay sculpture, and loved it! Coming from being with people of all ages during her 21 years of work at the nursing home, it is no wonder that her clay art is also “peopled” - and often humorous. Recently, she has begun acrylic abstract painting, and is enjoying this medium as well. Ursela teaches sculpture in her triple domed house/studio - called Star Bear Studio - and encourages newcomers to “clay” with her. If, however, they don’t want to “clay”, she invites them to paint their shoes, purses and suitcases. Basically “fun” is the operating word. “I love showing my work at Delectables, because it has been my “kitchen” ever since I moved here in 1993. I love the food, the atmosphere and the people who work there. Jan, Bette and I are privileged to hang our work there - and trust that it feels good to others as well.”
